The White Mountains offer some of Arizona's premier hiking experiences.

Fall is particularly beautiful in the White Mountains

Hiking the White Mountains is an experience you will never forget.

More than 975 miles of trails wind through the two-million-acre Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest. There are nine wildlife habitat areas which are closed to motorized vehicles. They include the area surrounding The Ranch at South Fork, so you can enjoy quiet, peaceful hiking, fly fishing, cross-country skiing and trail riding experiences.

Mountain biking is a favorite activity in the White Mountains

There are local trails rated from leisure to difficult for both hiking and mountain biking, so regardless of your experience and preference you can find a trail experience that is right for you.

Trail information and maps are available on the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest website.

Rugged but beautiful country near the ranch

The South Fork trailhead is about 1/2 mile from the ranch. The trail is open to hikers, mountain bikers and horseback riders. This hike is a 14-mile round trip and has a difficulty rating of moderate. It will take you from the South Fork Camp Ground up the South Fork of the Little Colorado River through some truly spectacular country to Mexican Hay Lake. The South Fork Trail is one of the most rewarding trails in the area.

Ask our managers and they will be happy to let you know about some of the other favorite trails.
